Thomas John Weipert's Obituary
Big Rapids -Thomas J. Weipert, 87, of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, May 7, 2021, at the Brook Retirement Community in Big Rapids.
He was born December 18, 1933, in Beal City, the son of Edward and Gertrude (Thielen) Weipert. Tom graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1952, and then went on to attend Ferris State College. He was drafted into the Army, served during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged as Sergeant in 1962. On June 14, 1959, he married Susan M. Ulrich, who preceded him in death in 2007.
For many years, Tom worked for First National Bank and Trust, and retired as Senior Vice-President from Chemical Bank Central. He was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and was active with many local boards and organizations throughout his life.
Tom is survived by his son James (Paula) of Big Rapids, along with grandchildren Elizabeth and Thomas, who affectionately knew him as Papa. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. Tom was also preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sally, brother Bob, and sister Margaret Ann.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Father Michael Burt officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Tom's family will greet friends at the church on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church.
