Victor "Wayne" Youmans' Obituary
age 86, of Lakeview, passed away March 7, 2015 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. He was born in Flint, MI, the son of Victor Keith and Ethel Mae Pixley Youmans. He attended Utley High School, and also attended General Motors Institute (GMI) for Maintenance.
Victor proudly served his country in the Army as a Guard Dog Trainer where he selected, trained, and cared for the dogs used for sentry, attack, scouting, and message carrying, and locating the wounded. Victor served in Germany from January 18, 1946 until June 16, 1949. Upon his discharge from the Army, Victor enlisted with the Navy as a Navy Seal "Navy Frogman" from August 15, 1950 until June 7, 1954. He served charting the inland waterways of Europe and spent time hunting Red Stag and Wild Boar in the Black Forrest to feed the German people.
Victor was employed by Bendle Public Schools in Burton, MI, with Maintenance for eighteen years.
Victor met Bonnie Vargason Youmans in January 1990, and they were happily married in Flint on June 22, 1991. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Lakeview, and President of the Genesee County Archaeological Society, and was a lifetime member of the Lakeview VFW Post # 3701. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, reading, camping, nature, and collecting rocks. He loved to share his hobbies with his family.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Ethel Youmans; one brother, Jim (Leona) Youmans; and one step-daughter, Teresa Dawn Barnes.
Victor will be missed by his wife Bonnie Youmans of Lakeview; six children, Jewell Mae Williams of CA, Vic E. (Heidi) Youmans of Byron, Tina Hansen of Flint, Janine (Jim) Stoddard of Fenton, Delbert Youmans (Colleen Farero) of Flint, Michelle (Matt) Bedtelyon of Lupton; two step-sons, Ron J (Annette) Bellamy of Vestaburg, and Jim (Shelly) Bellamy of St. Louis, MI; two brothers, Gordon (Linda) Youmans of Magnolia, NC, and Raymond (Terry) Youmans of Grand Junction, CO; grandchildren, Amber, Kendra, Brandon, Kristie, John, Jerry Michael, Sydney, Savanna, Trisha, Allison, Carson, D.J., Matthew, Jasmine, Whitney, Justin, Luke, Melissa, Amanda, Ben, Rhys, Jaart, Jon, Janna, and Jaimey; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Victor's life will be held at the Lakeview Free Methodist Church on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will be held at the church following the committal in Lakeview Cemetery. Family will be receiving friends on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview. Memorial Contributions may be made payable to the family of Wayne.
