Vincent L Miller's Obituary
Vincent Lewis Miller was born on February 28, 1933 to Henry and Susie (Bauman) Miller near Remus. He died September 17, 2022 peacefully at home with his family at his side. Vince was baptized into St. Michael Catholic Church and was a member his whole life. He attended St. Michael’s school through the 8th grade and then Remus High School where he graduated as Salutatorian of the Class of 1950. He lived his entire life near Remus.
Vince was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1954 and served in Germany as a mechanic. He was honorably discharged as a Specialist 3rd class in 1956. In 1958 he met the love of his life, Carol Ann Bradley, of Clare, at the roller rink in Lake. They married September 19, 1959 and enjoyed almost 63 years of marriage. It was a match made in heaven! He worked for GE/Hitachi Magnetics in Edmore for 36 years as a tool and die maker, retiring in 1993.
Together Vince and Carol built two houses themselves and raised 4 successful and beautiful children who gave them 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Vince was a hard worker and enjoyed cutting and selling fire-wood, making maple syrup, deer hunting and wood working. After retirement, Vince and Carol traveled extensively, camping in 48 states and 9 Canadian provinces.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Agnes Ann Miller, Bertha (Pete) Rhoades, Clothy Royce, and Charles Miller; brother-in-law, Mike Robison; daughters, Cathy Hitchmough and Jeanne Alaga; sons-in-law, Doug Hitchmough and Tony Davy, as well as his granddaughter, Marcy Haywood.
Vince is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Michael (Janet Hunt) Miller and Dave (Holly) Miller; sister, Helen (Max) Griggs; brother-in-law, Don Royce; sisters-in-law, Marie Miller and Arlene Robison; grandchildren, Derek Hitchmough, Christine (Dustin Debow) Hitchmough, Rebecca (Scott) Rant, Brooke (Matt) Keilen, Lisa (Brad) Manzullo, Paul (Emily) Miller, Ross (Heather) Miller, Mark Miller and Scott Miller, and great-grandchildren, Elijah and Elena Rant, Will, Addie, Lucy and Sammy Keilen, Etta Manzullo, Elliott and Teddy Miller, and Wally and Linden Miller.
Vince’s legacy of giving “bear-hugs” are being passed on to future family members through the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will take place Thursday September 22nd, at 11 am, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus with Father Tom Boufford as Celebrant. Visitation will take place Wednesday evening at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Remus, from 5pm to 7pm, with a rosary service at 7pm, and again Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at church.
Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to God’s Helping Hands, St. Michael’s School Foundation, or Hospice of Michigan, in lieu of flowers. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
