William Alonzo Green's Obituary
Big Rapids - William Alonzo Green, 60, of Big Rapids, was called home by God on October 6, 2013 at Medical Munson Center in Traverse City. He was born on February 6, 1953 in Detroit, the son of Dolores Sampson and William Green, and graduated from Detroit Central High School in 1972. As a teen he achieved many awards for football, baseball, boxing, and chess. He attended Kentucky State University, majoring in psychology. Alonzo went on to work in the construction and iron work trades, traveling throughout the states. Later he met Tonya Dorris, marrying her in 1989. Alonzo is survived by his loving family, including his wife Tonya; children Wayne (Tonya) Buford, Daryle Henderson, Gregory "JR" Fowler,Sister-in-law, Michelle Dorris, Keasha Fowler, Ebony Green, Jameila Green, and Jameika Green; sister Linda Sampson; grandchildren; Deandre, Isheia, Shameira, Brandon, Armanie, Darnell,Malaachi Hoeft and Deonte; aunt Velma Green; uncles Ronald Green and Walter Sampson; nieces Tjuana Hodges and her children Linell, Jeff, Jacara and Jacob; Reena(Lano)Sampson and her children Riana, Destiny, Avante, and Armani; Shawna(Anthony)West and her daughter Isis; as well as many, many, many cousins. Alonzo was a loving father, great friend, brother, husband, cousin, uncle, and nephew. He was a happy-go-lucky man to everyone that knew him. He loved to laugh and have fun. If you were sad, he was there to comfort you. If you were down, he was there to lift you up. Alonzo was always there and he always had the right words. Alonzo's family will greet friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Funeral services will be 5:00 p.m., Friday, October 11, 2013, at Mount Charity Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit with his uncle, Reverend Ron Green officiating. Interment will be at the Pleasant Plains Cemetery in Baldwin.
