Zane Daniel May's Obituary
Lakeview-Zane Daniel May, age 93, of Six Lakes, passed away on March 25, 2019, at Green Acres Facility in Greenville, MI. Zane was born December 29, 1925 in Six Lakes, the son of Daniel and Ethel (Gary) May. He was raised in Six Lakes where he attended the Fifth Lake Elementary and Six Lakes High Schools, graduating with the class of 1943. Zane married Virginia Alice Root on March 10, 1945 and three weeks later, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country honorably during WWII in the Pacific Theater. Zane worked for GE and Hitachi Magnetics in Edmore for over 34 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, traveling, snowmobiling and farming. Zane was a member of the New Life United Methodist Church and was instrumental in consolidating three congregations into one new church, as well as providing leadership to raise the funds for the new facility. He developed the plans and organized the workers to build a new chapel at the Hillcrest Cemetery.
Zane is survived by his children, Linda (Mel) Houck, and Steven (Deborah) May; grandchildren, Cherri (Randy) Buckmaster, Curt Houck (Joelle Betts), Christopher May, Rev. Dr. Stephanie May (Bill Churchill) and Jonathan May; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Blake Buckmaster, Elijah, Elena, Ezra, Alek, Matthew, Joshua, Zachary, and Rachel May.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of more than 70 years, Virginia May; his parents, Daniel and Ethel May; a great-grandchild, Dakota Buckmaster; and 10 siblings.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 11:00 AM at New Life United Methodist Church, Six Lakes, MI with Pastors Sue Babb, Anita Hahn, and Rev. Dr. Stephanie May officiating. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at the Burns May VFW Post 5602, 7556 N Musson Rd., Six Lakes, and at 10:00 AM on Friday until the time of the service. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Six Lakes, MI.
