Clayton "Sonny" Soper's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts yet a spirit of celebration that we announce the passing of Clayton "Sonny" Hubert Soper Jr., a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, who left us on May 15, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on February 2, 1952, in Niles, Michigan, Sonny spent his life in service to his family, community, and his passion for construction. Sonny was not just a successful construction business owner but a man who embodied the spirit of hard work and generosity. For 55 wonderful years, he was married to Barbara Soper, with whom he raised three devoted sons-Mark, Matthew, and Brent. Sonny was a proud family man whose love for his grandchildren, Willa and Hazel, brought him immeasurable joy. He was a military veteran who served proudly in the Army, and he continued to give back to his community throughout his life. Sonny was known for his commitment to volunteering on building projects and helping others, embodying the principles of kindness and generosity. His passion for gardening, nature, and sports complemented his interests in collecting model trains-hobbies that brought him great joy. A remarkable sibling to nine, Sonny leaves behind brothers Ron and Joe (Annie), and sisters Joy, Marge, Valerie, Adele (Mike), Lola (Rick), Jeanne (Jim), and Vickie (John), and sister-in-law Suz. His close relationships with his family and friends are a testament to his loving character. To honor Sonny's life and legacy, we invite the community to join us for a series of services celebrating his journey. A public viewing will be held on May 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Lakeview. Following the viewing, a funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM at the same location, allowing friends and family to share their memories and stories. Graveside services will begin at 2:30 PM at Day Township Cemetery in McBride. All are welcome to continue the celebration of Sonny's life with a reception at Stanton Frost SDA Church at 3:00 PM. Though he is no longer with us, Sonny's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know and love him. His laughter, kindness, and dedication will be sorely missed but never forgotten. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the wonderful life of Clayton "Sonny" Hubert Soper Jr. as we come together in love and remembrance. Sonny was preceded in death by: Clayton Soper Sr, Beatrice Soper, Jessie Keiff, Dennis Kieff, brother-in-laws, Gerry, Steve, Elroy, Al, and Bob, and sister-in-law, Wyonia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Stanton Frost SDA Church in honor of Sonny's passion for Christian education.
