Daniel Patrick Baumann's Obituary
Daniel Patrick Baumann, our husband, father, and grandfather, passed away May 17, 2017, in Grand Rapids, MI at the age of 75. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, May 20th, at 11:00 AM, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus, with Father Tom Boufford as Celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Dan was born October 18, 1941, the son of Isidore and Mabel (Matzen) Baumann. His father passed away when he was 17, and that was a life-changing event for him in so very many ways. Dan was the youngest of five children. He was a stubborn German, strong willed, and once he made his mind up to do something, there was no changing it. Dan was a man of few words, but his good heart and sense of humor were evident to all of his family, friends, and co-workers. He worked very hard, expecting the same from his children, and those who worked for him. He worked hard (everyone worked) and played just as hard (everyone played). In his younger years, Dan loved to bowl, golf, fish, and hunt. After his heart attack in retirement, Dan decided he wanted a camper, it even surprised Carol because she always said, “the closest thing he would get to camping was a Holiday Inn”. He loved his “big boy toys” and had lots of them, but his favorite was his mode of transportation in later years, HIS Ranger. Dan wasn’t the warm and fuzzy type, with hugs and kisses all the time, he saved those for special people and special occasions. He loved his wife, Carol, of nearly 55 years, his children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, in his own way. He was proud of ALL of them and their accomplishments were always noted, even if they didn’t know it.
Dan’s dry sense of humor and entertaining nature will be greatly missed by his wife, Carol Baumann; children, Danna Marie (Steve) Lucas, Tenna Lynn (John) Adams, and Donald Patrick (Heidi) Baumann; sister, Joann Dorr; sisters-in-law, Mary and Joyce Baumann; grandchildren, Cody Adams and Joshua and Isidore Baumann; step-grandchildren, Misti (Kevin) Ryder, Joshua Lucas, and Bryce and Ryan Erickson; step-great-grandchildren, Kaidance and Kiley Ryder, and many nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Isidore “Sonny” and Keith Baumann; sister, Mary Lou (Ed) Fries, and brother-in-law, George Dorr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Michael’s School.
