Ernest "Ernie" Stine's Obituary
Ernest "Ernie" Malcolm Stine, age 89, of Lakeview, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 at his home under Hospice Care. He was born on November 10,, 1926, in Hinton Township, the son of Malcolm and Ethel (Bast) Stine.
Ernest was raised and attended school in the Altona area. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Ernie then went on to marry the love of his life Evelyn Johnston on January 26, 1958. He owned and operated his own fuel oil business in the Lakeview area for several years. Ernie's hobbies included baseball, basketball and football and he was a avid fan of the University of Michigan and Detroit Tigers. He also enjoyed traveling around to watch his great-grandchildren play sports and attending harness racing. Ernie will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Ernest is survived by his 10 children, Ken (Nicki) Johnston of Morley, Vicki (Ralph) Van Asperen of Holland, Debbie (John) Johnson of Holland, Kathleen (Terry) Helms of Edmore, Al Stine of Lakeview, Kristine (Steve) Gruis of Langston, Brian (Kathleen) Stine of Jenison, Larry (Joan) Stine of Bellaire, Garry Stine of Stanton and Ron (Shawn) Stine of Lakeview; 25 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and sister, Violet (Justin) Wernette of Remus. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Evelyn, brothers, Arnold, Alvin and sister, Dorothy Sherman.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 26, at the Ernie Stine Baseball Field, 9800 Youngman Rd. Lakeview, Michigan with Pastor Ted Johnson to officiate. Interment will follow in the Altona Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, March 25, 2016 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM from Brigham Funeral Chapel-Lakeview. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do a memorial contribution are asked to consider the American Legion Post 554 of Morley, Michigan.
