Lyle Leon Bennett's Obituary
Lakeview- Lyle Leon Bennett, age 82, of Stanton, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023, in Shepard at Stone Lodge Memory Care. Lyle was born on February 28, 1941, in Vestaburg, the son of George and Nadawis (Sooy) Bennett. He was raised in Vestaburg and graduated from Vestaburg High School with the Class of 1959. He later continued his education at Montcalm Community College. On January 17, 1960, Lyle married the love of his life Ardeth Elaine Thompson in Mount Pleasant, they had 56 years of marriage filled with love and joy. He was a beloved supervisor at Hitachi and ran the sporting goods department at the Lakeview Leppinks for many years. Lyle was an avid outdoorsman and had many hobbies. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, metal detecting, bead and leather work, traveling, bowling, and watching NASCAR and dirt track racing. Lyle loved to bake and was famous for his chocolate chip cookies, which he often made with his grandkids. He was an amateur radio operator, he enjoyed polka and tap dancing, photography, reading, and watching westerns. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family. Lyle never missed an event for his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Alma Elks, NRA, local bowling associations, numerous muzzleloading groups, and was a dispatcher for Skywarn of Montcalm County.
Lyle will be missed by his four daughters Patricia (John Driscoll) McCracken of Sparta, Penny Christensen of Stanton, Pam (John Rhines) Arnold of Greenville, Shelly (Ed) Fountain of Mecosta; 8 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brother, Barry (Chris) Bennett of Vestaburg; brothers-in-law, Roy Cooper of Houghton Lake, Jim (Toni Morgenstern) Taylor of Blanchard, Nick Nicholson of Fenwick; sisters-in-law, Donna Bennett of Montana, Louise Drain of Lakeview; and many nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, Ardeth Bennett; parents; father and mother-in-law, Gerald and Helen Thompson; granddaughter, Jill Christensen; sons-in-law, Bill Arnold and James McCracken; sister, Vicki Cooper; brother, David Bennett; brothers-in-law, Abe Richards, Jerry Thompson, and Gary Rasmussen; and sisters-in-law, Geraldine Richards, Chris Nicholson, Judy Taylor, Vonda Rasmussen, and Ruth Thompson.
Lyle's life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview with Pastor Gale Nesbitt officiating. Contributions to Lyle's memory can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
