I just learned of Ralph's passing and wanted to send my condolences. I worked with Ralph at Bishop Borgess and have many fond memories of him. He was a great athletic director who was concerned to have the best for the athletes and coaches; he was not concerned about himself. He was a wonderful treasure-trove of stories about the "old days" in sports and especially in the Catholic League. I spent many joyful hours listening to his stories. I learned a lot from him about how to coach and how to be a better person.
I played for Coach Owen from 1955 through 1957. He was an inspiration, a friend and a mentor. At our reunion he paid me the highest compliment possible when he told me I was the toughest player he ever coached. I remember him fondly and will continue to do so. My condolence to his family.
