Sally Rochelle Fickes' Obituary
After a life of faith, Sally Larsen Fickes peacefully went home to be with the Lord on June 27, 2026, and now rejoices in the peace and joy of Heaven.
Preceded in death are Sally’s parents, Albert and Beatrice (Cousineau) Larsen. Her in-laws, L. Allan & Helen (McMillen) Fickes.
Sally went to Big Jackson, a one room schoolhouse, through the eighth grade. She went onto high school in big Rapids and was on the honor roll all four years. Sally has kept friendships thriving with classmates throughout the years. She attended Ferris for two years and then went on to continue her education (with a toddler daughter and an infant son), at Saginaw Valley. Graduating with Summa cum laude.
Sally and David Fickes married on March 13, 1970. They lived their first few months in Big Rapids, before moving to Saginaw for 30 years. Retiring & moving to Lake Mecosta for the past 25 years.
As a loving stay at home, mother, Sally’s home became a second home too many, as she cared for her children and warmly embrace their friends as though they were part of her own family.
Sally was a very talented quilter, and a member of the Canadian Lakes Quilting club. She played in euchre and bridge clubs and loved doing puzzles and going boating. Sally would sit at the front of the speed boat, and say “faster, go faster!
She volunteered time as the church treasurer for her church in Saginaw, for 12 years. After moving to Mecosta, she volunteered at her church here. She loved to travel and has visited Paris.
Surviving Sally, is her husband of 56 years, David. Daughter, Carrie (Steve) Solomon, their children Asher and Sadie. Son, Dan Fickes and his 3 daughters, Anna, Isabella and Aylea. Sally’s sisters June (Lee) Fickes, and Beth (Phillip) Morse. Brothers- in- law Will (Dianne Carty) Fickes, and Paul (Annette VanDomelen). Along with many nieces and nephews who will truly miss her.
The family would like to thank Cate Parker for the care she gave Sally for the past 3 years. And thank you to the staff at Big Rapids Field Memory Care Facility, for the care this past year!
A visitation will be held Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home, 128 S Warren Ave, Big Rapids, MI on Tuesday, June 30th from 4:00 to 7:00pm. Visitation is at The Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church, 9407 90th Ave, Mecosta, on Wednesday , July 1st, at 10:00am, with service starting at 11:00am. With Pastor Mark Gilson presiding. A luncheon will held at the Church Following the service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Chapel of the Lakes in Sally’s name.
