What beautiful memories of lovely lady
I am so sorry to learn of Shirley's death. Our families lived next door to each other, and although she was my older sister Mary Ellen's age, she was always kind & thoughtful to us younger children. She often joined our family reunions. We will miss her dear self. Kathy (Blumberg) Wade
Id have to estimate that it was sometime in my teenage years when grandma stopped buying me manicure sets. She tried with me, but it didn't take. Thoughtful gifts were consistent from her, but they were not always the tangibles . She walked by faith and led by example in all of the days which I knew her. I was blessed to share 33 years with grandma.I have countless memories to carry on, and perhaps pass down to my daughter. Some of our silly traditions are the fondest. Grandma was crafty-as in when I was a little girl she helped make pillows, bizzare felt-sewn sock creatures (we've recently rediscovered him) , clay structures, leggos, styrofoam ornaments with sequins, and even painting. Although these are examples of her talents that I didn't take up easily, we still had a blast creating. One thing we did together until up to the end, was morel mushroom hunting! Something we both shared in ability/inability some years. We had some impressive finds while grandma, grandpa and I roamed the Savage's property or even state lands! We shared stories, laughs, and lessons in our yearly excursions into the Montcalm county woods. I often tried to imagine her going with her grandmother too. Many of our activities from the unique tea parties - you'd have to be invited to understand - , mud bogging with grandpa and grandma spraying us down with the hose, zoo trips, Bible tapes and homemade skits. Grandma was not stingy with her time, and wrote me letters while I was away. The flood of memories are cherished, and selecting an exclusive one to share with her other loved-ones is challenging yet not impossible. Grandma met her only great grandchild almost a year ago. Brielle "Ann" was given grandma's namesake without hesitation. The lovely "Ann" ladies were able to spend quality time together. Even after a brutal hip surgery and other physical ailments, the new great-grandma played with, picked up, and cuddled her new one. She was never one to complain. Our last Christmas together was beautiful, and baby Brie was fussy. Her frown simply melted away when Great -grandma picked her up and gave some of that sunshine. My grandparents and I had a special Christmas together, and I didn't even consider it might be the last for one of us. The end did come quicker than expected, and although I didn't quite feel prepared, I know she was. Grandma Bergin needed to go home. And as she took her last breathe, with her loved ones nearby, her nails still looked nice, and she carried herself as ever before.
