Thomas Lee Weaver's Obituary
Thomas Lee Weaver, 70, of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, November 1, 2024, at home surrounded by family after a short, hard fought battle with cancer.
He was born September 12, 1954, in Muskegon, the son of Chester and Patricia (Boertman) Weaver. On June 19, 1976, Tom married Susan Stevens, and they had two sons, Ryan and Troy.
The family moved to the Rodney area in 1980, and there he had a painting business with his dad and brothers, and then started Weaver Builders with his dad and brother Terry for a few years. In 1988, Tom started working at Ferris in the carpenter shop and worked there for 27 years. Most of those years he proudly served as the AFSCME union president working very hard to secure the best for those he represented.
When he retired in 2015, in true Tom fashion, he never sat still. He always had a project of some sort to work on. When he wasn’t doing that, you could find him on the water fishing or out in the woods hunting. Tom rarely missed any events that involved his grandchildren, cheering them on in sports or any other activity they participated in. He enjoyed his home in Sebastian, Florida the last few years, spending winters there to escape the Michigan winters and to fish.
Tom is survived by his wife Susan; sons Ryan and Troy (Anna) Weaver; grandchildren Lauren and Seth Weaver; and his brother Terry (Leidewey) Weaver. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Jack and Shirley Stevens; sister, Tammy Ringnalda; and brothers Tim and Todd Weaver.
Tom’s family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m., Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Tom asked to have donations made in his name to Corewell Health Hospice.
