Winifred "Winnie" McCormick's Obituary
age 85, of Vestaburg passed away early Wednesday morning, February 24, 2016 at Woodland Hospice House, Mt. Pleasant with family at her side. Winifred was born November 13, 1930 in Pennsylvania the daughter of Charles and Daisy (Daymond) Kelly. Winifred was united in marriage to Marion R. McCormick on November 2, 1947.
Winnie was a long-time member of the Vestaburg Church of Christ and the VFW Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, genealogy, quilting, hunting and fishing. She had such a love of nature, always planting trees, flowers, and of course a vegetable garden. She always had some sort of animals that she was taking care of, always feeding the birds. But most of all she enjoyed taking care and doing for others. In her younger years, Winnie was a waitress, and she worked for a factory in Ithaca. In later years, she owned and operated Vestaburg Marketing for over 20 years. During that time period, she sponsored and supported a winning men's softball team.
Winnie is survived by her loving husband, of 68 years, Marion; her son, Tim (Dorrine) McCormick; grandchildren, Todd (Traci), Trevor (Michele), Ryan, Corey, Patti (Casey Beglin) McCormick ; great-grandchildren, Travis (Kassie) McCormick, Taylor McCormick, Gavin McCormick, and Ellery Beglin; and sister, Jean McCormick; her special cat "Skeeter"; step-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Winnie was preceded in death by a son, Marion "Robert" McCormick Jr.; brother, Cliff Kelly and a sister, Dorothy McCandless.
A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, March 5th, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Vestaburg Church of Christ, 7289 Ave. B, Vestaburg, MI 48891. Pastor Tom McNerney will officiate the service. Visitation will take place Friday, March 4th, 2016 from 6-8 PM and again Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the Vestaburg Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers those planning a memorial contribution are asked to contribute to Marion McCormick Family.
